About the opportunity Step into a pivotal role within our Regulatory Services team as a Prosecutions Officer.
You'll be at the forefront of protecting land in the Cardinia Shire, providing essential legal support and guidance.
Your work will drive impactful enforcement activities, significantly enhancing our community's wellbeing and safety.
You will make an impact by: Representing Council as a prosecutorial advocate in the Magistrates Court and VCAT.Preparing and serving legal documents in accordance with relevant legislation.Reviewing and preparing briefs of evidence for prosecutions.Negotiating with accused persons and representatives to achieve successful outcomes.Mentoring and supporting Council enforcement officers in their duties.Providing legal advice to investigating officers to support successful prosecutions.Keeping up to date with legislative changes and educating relevant staff.What you will bring: Substantial experience in law enforcement.A tertiary qualification in law, legal studies, or a related field (preferred but not required).Extensive experience in legal drafting, court procedures, and prosecutions.Demonstrated experience and understanding of relevant legislation, including the Criminal Procedure Act and Infringements Act.Proven ability to manage and mentor staff effectively.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.To apply: Please complete the online application form, including your resume and a brief cover letter demonstrating your suitability to the role.For further information regarding the role please contact Linda Ross, Manager Regulatory Services on 5943 4510 or refer to the position description.Cardinia Shire Council is an equal opportunity employer committed to an equitable, diverse, and socially inclusive work environment and a positive, barrier-free recruitment process.
