Wellclose is a unique, multi-enterprise business including cattle breeding, backgrounding and a large-scale commercial goat herd located 2 hours west of Charleville.
As an aggregation of 6 adjacent properties that totals 590,000 acres, our diverse operations include a 6,000 head steer backgrounding business, a 1,200 head registered Fullblood Wagyu breeding herd and a 5,000 head Wagyu X breeder herd.
Additionally, we manage a 25,000-head goat business that incorporates both backgrounding and breeding enterprises.
Wellclose has recently undergone significant capital development projects to support these multifaceted operations, with further developments planned for the future.
About the role: Reporting to the General Manager, Properties, you'll lead a total crew of approximately 12 plus contractors and service providers from time to time.
In this role, (supported by an Operations Manager) you'll take overall responsibility for the property's performance, effectiveness and profitability that includes: Ensuring a safe place of work Building and maintaining a high performing team, including recruitment, performance management, coaching, training and mentoring Maintaining highest standards of animal welfare practices and handling Effective herd management and execution of processing activities for goats and cattle to achieve optimal production outcomes Planning and overseeing execution of maintenance works and upkeep of infrastructure and assets Ensuring livestock data/information is accurately captured and reported Management of property inventory & stores/consumables Managing operational budget Ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance Effective management of cap ex projects Management of staff facilities, accommodation and kitchen Liaison, consultation and engagement with contractors, suppliers and service providers About you This is an ideal role for someone seeking a challenging, rewarding role with variety!
Along with being an experienced cattle station manager, the successful candidate will demonstrate: An unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our people The ability to lead, manage and engage a geographically dispersed team Extensive knowledge of livestock operations (small stock an advantage) Pasture planning and management ability Thorough knowledge of livestock water systems Planning, organisational and time management Strong horsemanship handling and riding skills with a genuine interest in teaching others Sound commercial acumen Computer literacy and understanding of livestock data systems Current and valid manual drivers licence Firearms licence (or ability to obtain one) Please note it is a requirement of employment that all employees are immune or vaccinated for QFever.
