The key duties of the position include:Assessing and triaging product safety reports – from consumers, businesses and other stakeholders regarding alleged breaches of product safety provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.Enforcement action – undertaking investigations into potential non-compliance with the product safety provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.Regulatory interventions – making recommendations to the Minister for regulatory action.Compliance and education – developing material to communicate product safety risks and educate industry and consumers, or negotiating voluntary recalls as part of a compliance outcome.Research – undertaking research, analysis and consultation to prepare reports and recommendations that inform risk mitigation strategies to address product safety hazards.Stakeholder engagement – working collaboratively with stakeholders across a diverse range of groups to address product safety issues.In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field such as law, intelligence, or another relevant discipline (e.g. regulation, economics, public policy, communications, arts, project management, health).A demonstrated understanding, or ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the product safety provisions of the Australian Consumer Law and Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), and the role, purpose and objectives of the ACCC's product safety functions.Demonstrated ability to undertake objective, systematic research, analysis, draw accurate conclusions, critically assess and support evidence-based decision making and present research and findings in well-developed written communication.Well-developed oral communication skills, ability to influence, persuade and negotiate, along with strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and sustain positive relationships with teams and stakeholders.A high level of resilience. This role may involve reviewing and analysing disturbing material. While the ACCC provides a framework, training resources and support to help minimise vicarious trauma, applicants need to be resilient in nature and able to draw on individual self-care strategies and support networks to manage their wellbeing.In addition to the above, APS6 Senior Project Officers roles require: Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy, and be accountable for delivering accurate, timely and quality outcomes as per prepared project plans.Experience leading an investigator/compliance team or similar role in a fast-paced and large complex people-centred organisation.The following job specific criteria are also highly desirable: Certificate IV in Government Investigations - successful candidates will be expected to obtain this qualification within 6 months of commencing.To find out more about us and the role, please read the Candidate Kit.
