The organisation exists to support the aspirations of the Palestinian people for justice, equality and human rights.
AFOPA is led by an energetic and committed Executive Committee that works to a 3 Year Strategic Plan and annual Business Plan.
AFOPA's three objectives are:
Advocate and influence – to influence Australian political attitudes to effect policy changeEngage and expand – to strengthen our reach and strategic partnerships with othersInform and advocate – raise awareness and champion action in support of PalestineRole Statement The Project Officer provides a diverse range of operational functions, primarily providing project support to enable the achievement of AFOPA's objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, providing administrative and project planning and implementation support for events and campaigns; coordinating and managing the organisation's administrative tasks; supporting membership and stakeholder engagement strategies; and providing executive officer support to the Executive Committee. The Project Officer is also responsible for managing AFOPA's walk in and online store at AFOPA's Palestine Centre for Peace.

Contributes to the successful delivery of AFOPA functions and projects by:managing projects/functions including planning, implementation and monitoring reporting on project performance including financial outcomespreparing communications materialsCoordinates and manages AFOPA's administrative functions by:responding to telephone and on-line enquiries assisting with the maintenance of AFOPA's website and social media platformsmanaging AFOPA member application and renewal processesundertaking initiatives to increase and retain membershipproviding advice on improvements to administrative processes and implementing changes within the framework of continuous improvement developing and maintaining centralised electronic files for administrative and financial processesproviding secretarial support to the AFOPA Executive Committee such as preparation of meeting minutes and agendasmanaging and reporting on AFOPA's Palestine Centre for Peace functions and projects Contributes to the development and provision of co-ordinated, targeted, timely and innovative communication with members, supporters and networks by: providing written information on AFOPA and its objectives, events and activities to the public, members and supporters participating in projects that strengthen relationships and engagement with AFOPA members, supporters, networks and like-minded organisationsassisting with scheduling and executing social media postings• Manages the Palestine Centre for Peace (PCP) by:
assisting people who visit the PCP undertaking the ordering, sale, marketing and stocktaking of merchandise in store and onlinemarketing the PCP as a centre of excellence on Palestine.Special Conditions Some out of hours is required to attend AFOPA events and meetingsThe incumbent is required to maintain a safe working environmentSelection Criteria (experience/ knowledge/ skills/ personal attributes) Proven experience in managing events, campaigns and special projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on outcomesHigh level written skillsProven experience in providing high quality administrative services Experience in the use of MS Office programs, online email and meeting platforms, and social media platformsAbility to manage financial elements of AFOPA's functions and projects and Palestine centre for PeaceKnowledge of website maintenance and implementation of improvements Proven ability in providing solutions and recommendations which result in continuous improvements to administrative practices and processes
