UGL and CPB Contractors are working with Powerlink in the delivery of CopperString 2032. This $5 billion iconic project involves the construction of approximately 840 kilometres of new 500kV / 330kV and 220kV transmission line between Townsville and Mount Isa that will connect Queensland's North-West Minerals Province to the national electricity grid.
The project scope includes:
• 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from Townsville to Hughenden
• 330kV transmission line from Hughenden to Cloncurry
• 220kV transmission line from Cloncurry to Mount Isa
• up to six new substation sites.
A FIFO position on a 15/6 roster. The Role We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a background in HV electrical and power projects to lead, manage, and drive successful project delivery. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of electrical, power infrastructure, and project management fundamentals. This is an opportunity for you to excel at coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing timelines, mitigating risks, and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
What will a day in this role look like: Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents. Proactively manage and oversee day-to-day operations during the project lifecycle, coordinating performance via Project Supervisors as necessary, to keep on top of all issues, progress, budget cost controls including variations and production controls ensuring that the project is undertaken in line with project financial targets. Ensure all work of the team members is performed in accordance with the current relevant standards, codes and legislations. Proactively monitor and evaluate systems and procedures specific to site works to ensure that they are up to date, compliant and in line with best practice. Proactively manage the full "pre-start" project setup process, ensuring the initial ramping up phase of all projects runs to schedule and avoids unnecessary delays during project delivery. Manage scope changes to ensure maximum return. Manage monthly reconciliations in a timely manner. What are we looking for you to bring to the team: Formal project management accreditation equivalent to Australian Institute Project Management (AIPM), PMBOK, Diploma, PMP or equivalent. Appropriate technical background with experience on large linear projects Candidates with experience in projects of >$1 billion highly regarded. Experience working within a joint venture. Minimum 10 years Project Management (or similar senior level) experience, from within High Voltage Power or Infrastructure industries. A high level of business and commercial acumen backed by a sound ability to create, read and interpret budgets, financial statements and analyze variance reports. A sound understanding and knowledge of construction principles in multi-discipline contracting environment. Ability and willingness to adapt, quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing structure, process, information and/or technology.
