As part of the established Environment and Biodiversity team, the primary focus of the Associate Environmental Planner role is to lead planning and environmental inputs to renewable energy projects, and to further our market presence.
The focus of this position is to drive growth of energy-related regulatory approvals and assessment projects, lead the development of new business opportunities for environmental services in the energy sector, develop and deliver on business plans and strategies, and support the delivery of positive client outcomes.
This role will lead and input to a range of environmental-related projects and associated statutory approvals, either in support of a wider team or as the project Environmental Lead. The focus for this role is predominantly renewable energy projects, however, will likely involve input to projects within other sectors including transport, water, maritime, waste and aviation. This role will also support the execution and delivery of the environmental business strategy, specifically supporting the continued growth and development of the Arup environmental practice within Queensland and the Australasian region more broadly.
What will I do? Lead and deliver a range of projects and proposals in Queensland (or the environmental components of multi-disciplinary projects), including large complex infrastructure and development projects mainly in Queensland and support similar projects in other Australian jurisdictions. Contribute to building a pipeline of environment projects and opportunities in the energy market. Contribute to the development, design and management of large, complex, long term projects. This will involve coordinating people, facilities and resources within tight timelines and inline with budgetary constraints. Be responsible for meeting deadlines, monitoring budgets and controlling expenditure to meet financial targets in your own area. Represent Arup at internal and external meetings. Contribute to the development of the environmental team in Queensland, including working with the Team Lead to support and mentor more junior team members. Take a longer term strategic view of the business and contribute to the development plan of Arup. Collaborate with Arup's Business Leaders to identify opportunities, cross-sell and prepare proposals for external clients. What will I bring? Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Town/Urban/Environmental Planning or Environmental Management/Science/Engineering or similar area. 15 years or more of relevant industry experience in delivery of environmental assessments and approvals for major projects within a consulting or Government business environment. Relevant industry experience in Renewable energy and development/environmental approvals within a consulting business environment. Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies. Experience in environmental assessments, planning, approvals and leading project teams. Strong technical knowledge within the Queensland market, with sufficient experience and credibility to influence key clients.
