About the Role This is a unique opportunity for a career-minded professional with Project Management & Design experience to join a national company, working between our Adelaide and Kingsford, SA offices.
As the Project Design Manager, you will be working alongside the General Manager and will be responsible for the transition of conceptual design detail through to construction issue detail for multiple complex projects within the Grain Storage and Handling sector. The Project Design Manager will also be responsible for engaging with Consultants, Subcontractors, Suppliers, and clients to procure the best value for money and highest quality materials for each project.
Key Responsibilities Effectively lead and manage the design phase of multiple projects from concept to hand-over ensuring quality, design cost, safety and time frame parameters are achieved. Effectively manage the initial project schedule from concept to the commencement of project delivery, ensuring that the design and early procurement elements of the project remain on time and within budget specifications. Ensure the progression from concept drawings to construction issue detail for all structural and mechanical elements of projects. Assist the General Manager in estimating material costs and quantities, and equipment requirements. Assist in procurement by engaging with Consultants, Subcontractors, and Suppliers to procure the best materials and services for each project. Review and analyse specifications, drawings and related data to assess the designs, procedures and instructions to be followed. Create instruction and additional comments for the installation and construction of the design. Liaise with Clients and/or their representatives and organise design progression meetings or other information to be received from or distributed to them as required. Ensure all requisitions are planned and submitted in advance for long lead time procurement items so that timely delivery of supplies to the site is achieved. Materials should not be stored on the site for excessive periods of time. Skills and Experience Minimum 2 - 3 years' experience in project management, design management or mechanical engineering in the Design & Construction industry; Communication and interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining client and subcontractor relationships; Excellent time management and prioritisation skills to deliver timely client responses; Have solid construction industry knowledge; Formal qualification in Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting or equivalent experience in a similar role. Construction Industry Workers (White Card) – to be obtained if not already held. Sound technical experience in using CAD or other 3D design software. Sound technical experience using Microsoft suite of products especially Excel. Advanced ability to efficiently review, optimize and manage design detail.
