The role This is a newly developed role within our Environmental Approvals team, designed to providecultural heritage and post-contact heritage approvals advice for South East Water's capital projects. The Project Archaeologist reports directly to the Team Leader, Environmental Approvals, and will build and maintain constructive working relationships with relevant regulatory authorities and work across the capital program to achievethe following activities:
Identifying approvals triggers and requirements Identifying opportunities to avoid and minimise impacts to heritage Contributing to and overseeing Cultural Heritage Management Plan preparation and approvals processes Identify, mitigate and monitor heritage risks to ensure compliance with legislative requirements, in collaboration withcontractors and internal planners and project managers Who are you? Asound understanding and extensive knowledge of cultural heritage legislation, processes and its application will allow you toprovide advice and support across the capital program and broader Resilient Communities group, including supporting integrated water management and strategic property projects. You can demonstrate skills, experience or knowledge in the following areas:
Tertiary qualifications, preferably an Honours degree in Archaeology or Anthropology (or Arts or Science) with an emphasis on Australian Aboriginal archaeology; 7+ years' of practical experience in cultural heritage consulting/advisory services; Ability to contribute to the preparation of cultural heritage reports such as Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs), historical assessments of places, archaeological salvage and due diligence advice; Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret Aboriginal cultural heritage management and relevant Victorian and Commonwealth legislation in Victoria; Demonstrated Project Management experience with Cultural Heritage Management Plans with experience conducting Aboriginal cultural values mapping, surveys and/or assessments; Well-developed project management skills with the ability to work within multi-discipline teams and manage multiple projects and priorities within budgets and timeframes; Well-developed interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills (including ability to present, write reports and prepare a range of communications for key stakeholders); Promotion of "cradle to grave" heritage management approach to ensure that risks are identified early, efficiencies are gained, and management plans are properly implemented; Current listing, or can meet the requirements to be listed, as a Heritage Advisor per Aboriginal Victoria guidelines - highly regarded; Experience working with Registered Aboriginal Parties - desirable.
