Program Principal - Closure and Legacy Mines (CALM) at About the opportunity
The Northern Land Council is in a period of transition, and is strategically looking forward to ensure we deliver on our obligations and support our seven regions. As part of our growth and regionalisation we are ensuring we lead from the front and continue to develop and maintain strong foundations, focused on good governance, clear strategy and being a strong voice for our constituents. In order to accomplish this, the NLC is looking for a suitably experienced and enthusiastic Program Principal – CALM project to join our highly skilled and engaged Resources and Energy team.
This Darwin based position will be responsible for running our Closure and Legacy Mines Program this position reports to the Resources and Energy Branch Manager and will work to inform, advise and advocate on behalf of the NLC, our Traditional Owners and our Executive Council within our seven regions on matters associated with the closure of mines and legacy mining projects including rehabilitation and rejuvenation projects, sign-off, and relinquishment by mining companies.
About you
You have a solid background and demonstrate knowledge of the mining industry and associated legislation you are able to evaluate and interpret environmental assessment and environmental impact studies. You will bring strong organisational, community and business management skills and experience that aligns with the NLC purpose and function. You are passionate about our communities and align with our Traditional Owner (TO) centric model. Your excellent communication skills and collaborative approach will see you establish and maintain outstanding working relationships and trust with key stakeholders.
What you will need
Bachelor of Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or relevant equivalent qualification.
Minimum of five (5) years' industry relevant experience working in the environmental management of mine closure (experience needs to demonstrate knowledge of the mining industry, associated legislation and assessment of environmental impacts).
Understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 and other legislation relevant to the land interests of traditional owners and Aboriginal communities, as managed by the NLC.
High level cross-cultural, interpersonal and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively liaise, engage and coordinate across an array of stakeholders (internal, traditional owners and external organisations) to build productive working relationships.

This position works closely with the NLC Resource and Energy Branch manager
Based in Darwin, with regular regional travel this position has an annual salary of $130,000 plus 14.5% superannuation and salary sacrificing.
