The Opportunity:
Sepsis Australia is a network of individuals and organisations who are working to prevent sepsis, improve clinical care and outcomes for patients with sepsis; support sepsis survivors and their families, and bereaved families; and foster greater awareness, education and research into sepsis.
Sepsis Australia sits within The George Institute (TGI) for Global Health Critical Care Program and works collaboratively with other teams across TGI as required.
The Program Manager / Senior Research Fellow – Post Sepsis Care will be responsible for overseeing a consumer and clinician partnership program of work to co-design post sepsis follow-up models of care across the lifespan.
The role will also contribute to academic outputs and contribute to funding applications.
They will work closely with the Program team and Partners to deliver on the Program Plan.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
As Program Manager
In collaboration with the Post Sepsis Care Program Team, manage, plan and execute all operational and ongoing activities for the Post Sepsis Models of Care Consumer and Clinician Partnership Program.
Lead aspects of the program, including, development of detailed plans for each of the 5 work packages (WP) as part of the Partnership Program, specific documentation, program meetings and other components of the program as needed.
Oversee and manage the planning, set up and implementation, ongoing evaluation, prioritisation, reporting and timely delivery of all operational aspects of WPs according to program plans.
Report on program milestones, timelines and risk to program team and other stakeholders as required.
Lead program team and engage and collaborate with other stakeholders and partners to achieve program milestones and timelines.
Provide hands-on operational support, including providing training and guidance to team members to ensure program milestones are met.
Manage budgets and resources.
Oversee the set-up of sites and contracts in accordance with SOPs, protocol and all applicable regulatory guidelines.
Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with WP specific documentation, applicable SOPs, ICH GCP (if applicable) and applicable regulatory requirements.
As Senior Research Fellow
Provide high level oversight and contribution to all research activities within Sepsis Australia and Critical Care.
Obtain research funding to support the role and/or additional project funding.
Lead grant writing and revenue raising for the program, including development of new projects as required.
Directly write and guide others in development of reports on analyses that are suitable for publication in high impact journals.
Manage a small team of researchers, including primary supervision of PhD students.
Contribute to proposal and budget development.
Foster strategic research collaborations with other researchers on projects both within and external to The Institute.
Develop and maintain national and international links to support the Program's activities.
Manage budget for a range of projects within the related program.
Ensure that research being conducted is congruent with world best practice.
Remain abreast of developments in the related program that are relevant to the study and The Institute; providing a source of information to colleagues within the Institute.
Contribute to teaching activities within The Institute and at the University of New South Wales and supervise students in medical and public health courses where applicable.
Engage with colleagues and stakeholders in other regions relative to the responsibilities of the role, accommodating global time zones where required, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
Our Successful Candidate will have:
PhD in a relevant health related discipline.
Experience in the management of research projects and/or clinical trials.
Demonstrated track record in application and procurement of grants and funds.
Experience in writing high impact research papers.
Experience and/or ability in people management and primary supervision of post-graduate students.
Advanced technical writing and oral presentation skills.
Developed decision making, problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.
Experience with budget proposals and development.
Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly i.e.
autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders.
Ability to see the big picture, yet still focus on detail.
Availability and willingness to travel.
Flexibility to work non-standard hours of work for collaboration and contact with global teams based on requirements of the position.
