Are you passionate about shaping the future landscape of Cairns?  Do you have the expertise to influence policy and secure vital investments? We are looking for a dedicated and strategic Program Leader Advocacy to join our team and spearhead our advocacy efforts to benefit the Cairns community.
Primary Objectives: Working closely with the Director of Economic Development and Advocacy, the position will lead the development and implementation of a clear advocacy strategy aimed at delivering positive investment and policy outcomes for Council and the Cairns community more broadly. The position will need to work effectively and professionally with Governments, Oppositions, MPs, Senators, and other identified stakeholders at the local, state and commonwealth level and across parties to support Council's advocacy strategy.
The position will work closely with the Mayor, Councillors, CEO, Council Officers, and external stakeholders to:
Proactively identify strategic advocacy issues and priorities for Council. Develop, maintain and review/update clearly articulated advocacy positions at both an individual and consolidated level. Develop and implement advocacy plans to secure funding, policy, and other intended outcomes for priority advocacy issues at both the individual issue and consolidated level. Support the development of positive working relationships between Council and representatives of State and Federal Governments and regional stakeholder organisations. Our Ideal Candidate: Demonstrated knowledge in advocacy, public policy, or a related field. Ability to identify key issues and develop strategic plans to address them. Strong writing and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders and internal teams.
