This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 Can you formulate a vision for literacy improvement? The School Champion Bay Senior High School (SHS) is an Independent Public School seeking to appoint a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic leader as a Program Coordinator – Literacy. Champion Bay SHS is a vibrant and innovative school committed to the delivery of high-quality teaching, strong pastoral care, and success for all students. Champion Bay SHS will work with its fifth cohort of Year 12 students in 2025. The school has a Selective Academic Program in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), which draws students from across the Geraldton region. The school has developed strong, innovative partnerships with its local primary schools and community organisations. A commitment to the school's emphasis on pastoral care and social and emotional learning initiatives will be highly regarded as well as active promotion of the school's vision, moral purpose and values within the school and the wider community.
As a member of the School Leadership Team, you will contribute to the implementation of the school's Business Plan through participative decision making whilst promoting the school's vision and strategic directions. It will be highly desirable for the successful applicant to have the ability to lead change, supported by their capacity to use evidence-based data to inform their decision making to implement innovation within literacy practices focussed on student improvement.
You will work as part of a collegiate team and be solutions focussed. As Program Coordinator - Literacy, you will continually drive improvement by providing proactive leadership that is collaborative, inspiring and supportive. The successful applicant will lead flexible and adaptive teachers who will apply differentiated instruction and explicit teaching across all year levels. This requires working with staff in the literacy team, the Program Coordination for Numeracy, as well as with all teaching staff and learning areas to enhance classroom literacy practices and improve student literacy outcome.
By leading literacy improvement programs and initiatives, the Program Coordinator - Literacy will ensure that teachers develop consistent instructional practices that optimise student learning and engagement. The successful applicant will lead reflective performance development discussions with staff, based on a comprehensive knowledge of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. This may be through coaching, developing an ethos of teacher self-reflection, feedback, data analysis and a review of summative and formative assessment practices. Facilitating the effective implementation of instructional intelligences, classroom observation and student voice, you will also model highly reflective practices as both teacher and leader.
The Program Coordinator - Literacy should possess a thorough understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) requirements. It will be highly desirable for you to have experience in the planning, development, and delivery of whole-school literacy improvement initiatives and targeted intervention programs for NAPLAN writing and/or OLNA literacy.
