Queensland Ambulance Service (Organisation site)Southport Operations Centre; Gold Coast Region; SouthportThe Professional Development Officer (PDO) is responsible for identifying, developing, and coordinating the delivery of operational education and training packages, including manuals and supporting documentation, to staff within the QAS Operations Centres.The QAS Operations Centres are innovative, state of the art facilities that provide responsive and effective emergency incident call taking and dispatch services to the QAS.The Professional Development Officer provides Operations Centre leadership, professionalism, and support to the Operations Centre Manager in implementing reforms and service improvement initiatives and will contribute to the overall future direction of QAS service delivery.Refer to Role Profile for Full Details.Monitor, review, evaluate and report on training, education and professional development requirements for Operations Centre employees, providing expert advice and support to staff to ensure they meet their educational requirements to maintain their Credentialed Scope of Practice and continuously improve staff competence and performance.Assist in the design, development, coordination, delivery and implementation of best practice strategic education programs, training plans, and personalised supportive training plans as required, in consultation with staff, supervisors, the Manager Clinical Education and the Operations Centre Manager.Ensure the Operations Centre education programs are designed and delivered in accordance with QAS strategic objectives, policies and procedures, registered training organisation requirements, tertiary education sector standards and regional accreditation requirements.Assist in monitoring staff quality performance criteria and audit results, analysing and identifying trends or areas for improvement that inform professional development and staff improvement initiatives for Operations Centre employees.Ensure continuous quality improvement processes are developed and implemented within the professional development stream, in conjunction with the introduction of additional technologies, business process re-engineering and organisational changes.Maintain and continually develop knowledge and skills to effectively mentor, coach, supervise and empower all Operations Centre staff by spending the majority of time on duty involved in direct contact with the operational environment and actively participate in relevant committees, meetings, and quality assurance programs and processes.Actively provide leadership, advice and support to Operations Centre staff, supervisors, Operations Centre Managers and Regional staff through the provision of high-quality advice and the preparation of routine and specific reports as required.Implement and maintain effective work practices and business processes to ensure key performance indicators are achieved and maintain appropriate learning and development records including competency records, assessment records and other service specific requirements.Develop and maintain productive relationships to ensure effective contribution to the development of high quality clinical educational programs.Apply contemporary human resource management strategies and practices to ensure optimum management of projects, achievement of business objectives and development of staff.Lead and manage staff in emergency management capability for disasters, major incidents and mass crowd gatherings, in close consultation with the Director Operations - Emergency Management, State Headquarters.Maintain credentialed scope of clinical practice as approved by the Medical Director and/or Commissioner, QAS.As a leader, actively demonstrate and promote the QAS's approach of zero tolerance towards violence and commit to supporting those affected by domestic and family violence in accordance with QAS policies and mechanisms.
