We employ motivated people who want to work together to produce excellent outcomes for our students. Our staff are recognised as being central to achieving our mission.  Townsville Catholic Education Office (TCEO)  is seeking an experienced and dedicated Leader, School Pastoral Support to commence on 20 January 2025. This role is a full time, fixed term (12 months) position. About the role The purpose of the Leader, School Pastoral Support is to provide system level coordination and to develop and implement a framework for pastoral support in schools. By taking a proactive approach to student wellbeing, this role will carefully plan for the support and success of every student by developing effective pastoral care programs and supporting and providing guidance to pastoral and wellbeing staff in schools. The Leader will effectively develop, implement, and take responsibility for TCEO's catalogue of pastoral and student wellbeing programs. The Leader, School Pastoral Support will advise on and coordinate pastoral care and wellbeing programs to support and restore the wellbeing of students including programs to promote resilience and develop social and emotional wellbeing of students. The role will provide direct advice and support to school leaders and pastoral staff as they navigate complex student pastoral issues.The Leader, School Pastoral Support will continuously monitor and analyse trends regarding emerging and common student mental health and wellbeing needs, to develop and tailor specific programs to address these needs, and shift towards a proactive approach to pastoral care and student wellbeing across all schools in the Diocese. This role will work collaboratively to ensure pastoral leadership and staff, principals, and teachers have the understanding and capability to support students' mental health. About you   Leadership An experienced leader will be authentic and inclusive in their approach to working with key stakeholders and TCE Office staff. They have proven results in motivating and engaging employees to achieve their objectives. Previous demonstrated experience in building capability and talent in an educational setting will be highly regarded, as well as proven abilities in managing and leading teams through change. Provide appropriate governance and accountability for the team and their deliverables, within the domain/area of responsibility. Experience Demonstrated effective experience designing and overseeing the implementation of proactive pastoral care programs to meet the wellbeing needs of students. Experience in establishing and implementing strategies for pastoral care and student wellbeing, including the design of proactive pastoral programs. Expertise in leading a team in developing, implementing, and monitoring pastoral care to support student wellbeing across multiple schools. Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal communication and human relations skills in dealing with a range of professionals including professionals from other agencies and organisations. Staff management experience with the ability to motivate and develop staff, and plan and allocate work to meet objectives. Demonstrated capacity to effectively respond to sensitive and complex student issues within an ethical framework. Knowledge Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of all policies pertaining to student wellbeing, pastoral care and behaviour management. Knowledge of the role of team members: team leaders, guidance counsellors, pastoral and wellbeing staff as they operate in schools. Capacity to research, develop and implement proactive pastoral and wellbeing programs and services for students with high support needs that reflect best practice and that align with relevant policies and procedures. Skills Proven track record in establishing links with community-based support structures and other professionals working in a similar capacity, particularly to promote proactive wellbeing and pastoral care initiatives. High level ability to facilitate mental health and wellbeing upskilling opportunities for principals, pastoral leaders and staff, and teachers. Competency in preparing and presenting professional development in an adult learning environment. Consultation skills to work with team and school staff in developing support structures for students. Expertise in representing student wellbeing needs at a system level. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop and sustain productive relationships within and beyond the school community. Ability to identify trends in student wellbeing data and utilise this information to inform the development of proactive pastoral programs. Ability to motivate school and pastoral team members and encourage productivity as well as empower wellbeing and pastoral staff to seek information that improves their ability to develop and assess a variety of potential solutions to problems which arise. Mandatory Criteria/Professional Registration/Other Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government Current full registration as a teacher or full registration as a psychologist. Current Driver's Licence Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner. Desired experience in coaching or supervision of staff and leading a pastoral team within a school.
