About the roleSupport the development of Standards and other types of documents; editing, revising, converting and formatting written material to improve readability for publication, in various formats such as XML, PDF and HTML. The role involves working on documents across a wide range of subject areas. Although you are not expected to be an expert in any particular field, your expertise will be called upon to logically review technical content and provide effective editorial advice and document improvements within each subject area.
The Production Editor effectively liaises with other stakeholders in the Standards development chain to ensure changes are fit for purpose and the production service levels are maintained. This role is a 12 month fixed-term contract.
What you'll doEnsure that content is in line with Standards Australia's guides, procedures and house style, and that the structure, content, and language of the document are appropriate and meet customer needs.Check for accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation, ensuring internal consistency of content and format, and accurate referencing and cross-referencing.Ensure product metadata is accurate to support end users and systems.Work with publishing tools such as eXtyles and MathType to prepare drafts of technical publications suitable for Committee member drafting and review.Proofread and quality check work against source documents in all customer formats (e.g. comparing MS Word documents, PDF documents, HTML output, and XML source files), identify deviations, and make relevant corrections.Use relevant software to transform drafts to XML and end user formats.Collaborate regularly with your team, external stakeholders and other internal stakeholders to develop high quality documents.Attend meetings with Committee members or Drafting Leaders (authors) on committees.About youUniversity degree or other relevant qualification, in an appropriate field.Minimum 3 years' experience in technical editing.Excellent command of written and spoken English.Advanced in Microsoft Word features especially styles, templates and Equation Editor.Experience working in a publishing house with electronic publishing.Experience in eXtyles and Typefi is advantageous.Experience working with HTML and XML for publishing technology is advantageous.Experienced in Microsoft Visual Basic, Adobe Acrobat and other components of Adobe InDesign creative suite is advantageous.Culture & BenefitsStandards Australia is proud to have been awarded the prestigious Employer of Choice Award for two consecutive years, 2023 and 2024.
