The successful candidate will have sharp news judgement, experience working in a fast-paced environment, and a deep interest in and broad knowledge of arts and culture.Reporting to the Culture News Editor, the Deputy News Editor will collaborate with reporters to generate ideas, respond to breaking stories, and co-ordinate coverage of major cultural events. The ideal candidate will help drive the daily news coverage for our mastheads with original and timely stories that appeal to our subscriber audience.Strong copy editing skills, a flair for writing headlines and solid digital production skills are essential.The role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.Day to day you will:Collaborate with the Culture News Editor to shape the daily culture news agenda.Commission reporters and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality stories.Edit and produce content in line with newsroom best practices.Work closely with other editors and teams across newsrooms to enhance the quality of culture news coverage.QualificationsWhat we're looking for:A passion for arts and culture.Proven experience in editorial content production, particularly in digital editing.Strong sub-editing skills and a deep understanding of SEO best practices.Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.Proven ability to work under pressure and meet rolling deadlines.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and inspire teamwork.A hunger for news and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.Additional InformationOur Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion:We're committed to a safe, respectful and inclusive Nine.
