About the Organisation The Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) is the independent integrity agency in NSW that supports the NSW Information Commissioner and the NSW Privacy Commissioner.
Its vision is that privacy and access to government information are valued and protected in NSW.
The Information Commissioner is the chief executive of the agency and works closely with the Privacy Commissioner to support their statutory functions.
Through education, regulation, oversight, and guidance, the IPC helps public sector agencies and the public understand and comply with privacy and information access laws, including managing the emerging challenges from advances in technology. About the Opportunity As Privacy Commissioner, you will be responsible for shaping the future of privacy oversight and regulatory operations across the NSW public sector.
Leading the implementation of the state's first Mandatory Notification of Data Breach Scheme, you will also guide and support agencies to comply with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002.
The role requires collaboration with key stakeholders, including chief and senior executives of state government agencies, local councils, public universities and state-owned corporations, to promote privacy awareness and legislative compliance.
You will manage complex investigations, advise government about privacy, and contribute to the development of frameworks for robust information governance at the intersection of privacy, law, and technology. About You You are a senior leader with a deep understanding of the role of integrity agencies, the importance of information governance and contemporary issues in data privacy.
Your experience in leading within regulatory environments, conducting investigations, and managing compliance frameworks will equip you to address the complex challenges posed by rapidly evolving technology and privacy risks.
With exceptional stakeholder engagement and public communication skills, you can build strong relationships across government and other sectors.
