Principle Open Pit Mining Studies Specialist Gold Fields is a globally diversified gold producer with nine operating mines in Australia, South Africa, Ghana, Peru, Canada, and Chile.
We have an opportunity for a Lead Specialist Mining Studies to join our Corporate Technical team in a dynamic, international environment. This position was created through our recent operating model update to build on the global nature and impact of our business.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Mining Studies, this role will be pivotal in developing and evaluating technically viable and sustainable solutions for various strategic projects within the Group, including site-based strategic projects. This role encompasses managing operational and site-based initiatives, focusing on early-stage scoping and concept studies that align with our strategic and business planning objectives, ESG targets, and future open pit project progression stages—including prefeasibility and feasibility studies.
This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis and will require global site travel to support our global projects and operations.
About the role: Conduct prefeasibility and feasibility studies across the Group, ensuring a consistent approach to technical and financial evaluations; Be responsible for developing technical and financial standards, including consistent evaluation methods for the studies; Develop and evaluate sustainable solutions for operational and strategic projects; Conduct early-stage scoping and concept studies to inform strategic decision-making predominantly within open pits; Work closely with internal resources and external consultants to leverage expertise and insights for project execution; Foster a collaborative environment to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of project delivery; Manage the timely delivery of projects, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards, and align with the strategic goals of the organisation; About you: Extensive proven senior leadership experience in open-pit mining, with a strong background in studies and project management; Relevant degree in mining engineering or a related discipline; Proven track record in managing prefeasibility and feasibility studies, demonstrating a solid understanding of technical and financial evaluation methods; Demonstrated experience with Resource & Reserve estimate process; Technical expertise in mining processes, project management methodologies, and sustainable practices; Proficiency in XERAS, Deswik, Whittle; Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in an accessible manner; Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team; Strong organisational skills, with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously; Applications can be submitted via: We are committed to continue building a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive, and follow an inclusive recruitment process with all qualified applicants considered.
