Join us for an exciting career opportunity as a Principal Workplace Health and Safety Advisor, where you'll provide high-level service and advice on WH&S activities and environmental matters across the building, construction, and maintenance within QBuild. QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government.
It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role In this pivotal role, you will support QBuild's mission to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry.
You will ensure smooth operations, drive continuous improvement, and adapt proactively to change while fostering strong teamwork and collaboration.
Your role will focus on effective documentation management, project coordination, and ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
Duties and skills involved: Proactively oversee the region's Environmental, Safety, and Health Management Systems, ensuring compliance and effectively identifying and managing risks.Provide strategic WHS&E advice to senior management and regional teams, using excellent people skills to ensure alignment with legislation, industry standards, and internal procedures.Work closely with the team to support the region in implementing changes and actions for effective, compliant environmental, safety, and health processes.Investigate incidents, hazards, and accidents; conduct audits; inspect sites; identify risks; and lead the implementation of preventative measures.Collaborate with senior management by providing detailed health and safety reports, supporting staff rehabilitation, and managing WHS&E programs to enhance team performance and project delivery.Preferred skills and experience: Demonstrated experience providing advice in WHS legislative compliance requirements, including relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards/International Standards.Demonstrated strong knowledge of industry, or similar industry, including the ability to identify building construction and maintenance hazards and risks and the related controls and strategies for elimination.Demonstrated experience in the effective development and delivery of programs and improvement initiatives.While there are no mandatory requirements, WHS&E experience in construction, maintenance, or similar industry and Certificate IV in WHS is highly desirable.All applicants must be eligible to work in Australia.
