Title: Principal Urban Planner
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Principal Urban Planner to join our team in Melbourne.

As a key leader within the Planning & Environmental team, you will oversee the delivery of urban planning services for a wide array of projects, including high-profile transport, water, and infrastructure initiatives.
Your leadership will directly contribute to some of Melbourne's most transformative projects.

You will also have the chance to expand your influence across sectors, guiding projects that span from transport and maritime to water and the built environment.
In this role, you'll lead multi-disciplinary teams, drive strategy, and deliver innovative solutions with award-winning outcomes.

Your Role Will Include (but not be limited to):
Leading the provision of statutory and strategic planning advice throughout various project stages, from development to delivery.
Managing and securing planning approvals, including overseeing planning permit applications, Heritage Act permits, and other regulatory processes.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, government authorities, communities, and internal stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
Leading the coordination of sub-consultants and ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical documentation.
Collaborating closely with engineers, ecologists, urban designers, and other built environment professionals to deliver integrated project solutions.
Who Are You?

As an accomplished planning professional, you are ready to take the lead in some of Melbourne's most iconic infrastructure projects.
You have a proven ability to navigate complex planning environments, ensuring compliance while balancing multiple priorities and risks.
In addition to your technical expertise, you thrive in a leadership role, mentoring junior planners and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative outcomes.

You are also adept at building professional networks, both within KBR and externally, and have strong relationships with government departments and industry stakeholders.
Your commitment to excellence and collaborative approach will help drive our projects forward.

Your Skills & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in planning or a related field.
10+ years of experience in statutory and strategic planning, ideally within large-scale infrastructure or urban development projects.
Strong knowledge of planning approvals processes for major and complex projects.
Demonstrated experience leading teams and mentoring junior planners.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience in business development or marketing activities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Eligibility for membership in a professional planning association.
