The Principal Policy and Project Officer will provide high level research, analysis, and advice on policy and regulatory compliance issues relevant to the Office and Division.The Principal Policy and Project Officer will lead the development and delivery of assigned policy, legislative, and regulatory compliance projects, and provide authoritative advice in relation to legislation administered by the Office.As a senior staff member in the Office, the Principal Policy and Project Officer will actively contribute to staff leadership, strategic direction-setting, risk identification and management, and continuous business improvement measures.The successful appointee may be required to assist in the development, management and implementation of elements of the Office's education and regulatory compliance program, as required.

DutiesProvide high level research, analysis, and advice on policy, legislative, and regulatory issues relevant to the Division, and lead the development and delivery of solutions, proposals, and recommendations.Lead and coordinate the delivery of complex and/or high priority policy, regulatory, and legislative projects, consistent with the Office's strategic work program and the Government's priorities, including by supporting and supervising more junior staff.Provide authoritative advice to the Director of Local Government, the Secretary, and the Minister on legislation administered by the Office.Actively contribute to strategic direction-setting, risk identification and management, and continuous business improvement measures for the Office.Prepare a range of complex written materials, including ministerial and Cabinet documentation and correspondence, reports and briefing notes and supporting material for policy and legislation.Assist in the development, management, and implementation of elements of the Office's education and regulatory compliance program, as required.Effectively liaise and consult, at management level, with State agencies, local government and other stakeholders on policy, legislative, and regulatory compliance issues.Undertake other duties within this classification level and range of responsibilities which are within the employee's competence and skill level.A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
