We provide fully integrated environmental and social assessment and management services including concept and feasibility, technical assessment, consultation, approvals, delivery, operation, and decommissioning.Umwelt are seeking to employ an experienced, collaborative and delivery focused Principal or Senior Aboriginal Heritage Consultant to join our growing Heritage team in either New South Wales or ACT. This role can be located within either Canberra, Sydney, or Newcastle.Principal Aboriginal Heritage ConsultantYou will have significant experience and expertise in Aboriginal heritage management and conservation. Their role involves overseeing and leading Aboriginal heritage related projects, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring the quality and compliance of deliverables.Key Responsibilities:Leading the delivery of heritage management projects. This includes overseeing project teams, coordinating fieldwork, managing budgets and timelines, and ensuring that project goals are metEngaging with clients to understand their project requirements, provide expert advice on heritage and archaeological matters, and develop tailored solutions that meet client needs while adhering to regulatory requirements and best practicesPresenting technical findings and relaying information to non-technical persons, including clients and communityWell-versed in heritage and archaeological legislation, regulations, and guidelines, and apply this knowledge to assess significance, develop conservation strategies, and mitigate impacts on heritage and archaeological valuesProvide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, helping to develop their skills and expertise in heritage and archaeological management and consultancySenior Aboriginal Heritage ConsultantYou will provide advice on Aboriginal heritage matters. This role requires extensive experience in conducting heritage assessments, archaeological investigations, and evaluations to identify and assess the cultural significance of heritage sites, landscapes and archaeological remains.Key Responsibilities:Conduct assessments to identify, assess and evaluate archaeological resources that may be affected by proposed development projectsConduct field surveys and investigations to document and assess cultural heritage and archaeological resources, using techniques such as archaeological excavation, archival research, field surveys, and remote sensing technologiesEvaluate the potential impacts of development projects on cultural heritage and archaeological resources, considering factors such as project design, construction activities, and potential changes to the landscapeComply with relevant heritage and archaeological legislation, regulations, and guidelinesLiaise with a range of stakeholders, including government agencies, developers, planners, and heritage organisationsDevelop strategies and measures to mitigate adverse impacts on cultural heritage and archaeological resources, such as archaeological excavations, monitoring, heritage interpretation, and community engagement programsPrepare technical reports, assessments, and documentation summarizing their findings, recommendations, and proposed mitigation measuresThe ideal candidate for either one of these roles will have strong stakeholder engagement, experience in providing advice and advocacy on heritage and archaeological matters to clients, government agencies and community groups, as well as the ability to prepare, edit and format technical reports.Key Requirements:A degree in Cultural Heritage Management, Archaeology, Anthropology or related fieldA minimum of 10+ years of experience as a Principal and 5+ years as a SeniorPreferably experience in a consultancy environmentKnowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth heritage legislation and associated regulations and guidelinesDemonstrate leadership experience, including project management and team coordinationInterest and experience with client relationship managementAustralian Drivers licence (ideally with 4WD experience)What We OfferOur people are our number one asset, and we are committed to providing a workplace that supports our team to grow.
