About The Role
Are you passionate about environmental stewardship and ready to take on a leadership role in the mining industry? Thiess, a global leader in mining services, is seeking a Principal Environmental Advisor to drive excellence in environmental management across our Australian projects. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to shape sustainable practices, mentor project-level environmental advisors, and elevate the importance of environmental management at our diverse mining sites. As a Principal Environmental Advisor, you'll be at the forefront of Thiess' commitment to pioneering a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow in the dynamic field of open-cut and underground mining.
Additionally, you will:
Lead and mentor site environmental graduates and advisors, ensuring accountability for team contributions toward achieving environmental objectives.
Provide strategic input to the Sustainability Strategy and manage its implementation across Thiess' Australian projects, including the development of annual business plans and KPIs.
Offer technical expertise and support to ensure compliance with client and legislative environmental requirements, while assisting sites in managing environmental contractual matters.
Manage internal environmental audits across Australian sites, developing governance processes, and representing Thiess on key industry committees.
Support the development of new services, identify commercial opportunities, and provide essential environmental input for tender submissions, including risk assessments and cost estimates.
About You
You are an experienced professional with extensive mine site experience and a strong understanding of environmental challenges in the mining industry. Your exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, enable you to convey complex concepts clearly and persuasively. With high-level influencing abilities, you effectively engage stakeholders at all organisational levels, driving support for environmental initiatives. Your expertise positions you to enhance environmental management practices across Thiess' Australian projects.
Additionally, you have:
Degree in Environmental Management/Science or equivalent.
ISO 14001 environmental management system experience – development and implementation.
Experienced site environmental auditor.
Strong environmental legislative knowledge.
Sound understanding of mine site environmental issues.
Contracts Management Experience.
