Job description:

About the RoleReporting to the Superintendent Biodiversity, this role provides effective and efficient biodiversity support to the Iron Ore business by delivering comprehensive ecological assessment and monitoring programs. This role contributes to the improvement of Pilbara biodiversity knowledge to facilitate environmental risk management and asset growth. Your expertise will provide key support to enable environmental approvals and compliance.
Key responsibilities will include:
Provide biodiversity and ecological inputs through all stages of BHP Iron Ore projects from identification of early work and budgeting through to execution of the project.Lead technical aspects of ecological related environmental impact assessment and provide input to and review of EP Act Part IV and Part V documentation.Identify research opportunities and manage research projects with internal and external stakeholders.Develop and coordinate biological survey programs to support business and project outcomes.Biological data verification, management and improvement.Supervise contractors undertaking biological surveys ensuring they are competent and that they understand the purpose and functionality of the scope and all critical safety controls relevant to their work.Support other environmental activities and initiatives as directed by the business.Effective understanding of ecological risks and threats to inform research and study.About YouTo be successful in this role, you have the following skills and attributes:
Degree qualification in a relevant field of biology.Diverse technical knowledge in biodiversity and ecological management.Experience in contractor management systems.Comprehensive understanding of relevant WA Environmental Protection Authority technical and environmental factor guidelines relating to Environmental Impact Assessment.An understanding and application of WA state and federal environmental approvals processesExperience managing projects and working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.Availability to travel to the Pilbara region of WA on an ad hoc basis.IT literacy, including MS office, ArcGIS, MS AccessSignificant experience in biological survey techniques and field sampling.Sound knowledge of and experience in sampling Pilbara fauna and flora.Location
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - 'City Square'. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, end of trip facilities including bicycle racks and lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues. Surveys are delivered in the Pilbara Region of WA requiring travel on an ad hoc and needs basis for long day trips or overnight.
