Principal Accountant

We are currently seeking applications for a Principal Taxation Accountant, to join Shared Services SA at The Department of Treasury & Finance for a period of 12 months. Remuneration: ASO7 – Salary Range ($108,109 - $116,864 p.a.) About the opportunity: The Principal Taxation Accountant reports to the Assistant Director, Taxation Services. Taxation Services encompasses statutory reporting requirements, taxation compliance activities and provision of advice on all matters relating to Goods and Services Tax (GST), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) and Payroll Tax (PRT). The Principal Taxation Accountant is responsible for the effective delivery of timely and high-quality Taxation Services to SA Government client agencies in accordance with the established Service Level Determinations, performance measures, and legislative requirements. The role will be responsible for the preparation of statutory taxation returns accompanying reports and reconciliations and undertakes compliance work with relevant taxation legislation, rulings and case law. In addition, the Principal Taxation Accountant will oversee business changes and continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve the quality, timeliness and accuracy of taxation related services, effectively identify and manage risks and enhance taxation compliance. About you To be successful you will have: A degree level qualification in accounting, finance, economics (or equivalent) and eligibility for membership to a professional accounting body. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to a high standard, while proactively maintaining a productive working relationship with all stakeholders. Experience in leading a high quality and timely customer service with demonstrated experience in liaising effectively and working collaboratively with a range of clients and stakeholders, to facilitate cooperation and support in achieving outcomes. The ability to motivate and inspire others to work together as a team to achieve objectives, with a commitment to a team and client service orientated philosophy. Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to prioritise and organise work to meet completing deadlines and remain focused on key objectives in a demanding work environment. The ability to display flexibility, adaptability, and versatility of approach in order to meet changing requirements and to lead others in an environment of change. Experience in the preparation of complex statutory taxation returns, provision of complex taxation advice and analysis of data in a complex organisation. Experience in identifying, developing, and implementing financial management and reporting improvement initiatives and processes. A strong knowledge of the legislation relating to taxation services, associated rulings, and governance frameworks applicable to SA Government. Commitment to Taxation Services and management practices/compliance, including a strong understanding of taxation legislation, financial management standards and related governance frameworks and their application in a government context. Demonstrated experience in using financial management applications (e.g. Masterpiece, Oracle, SAP) and Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, modelling, and reporting. Sound understanding of the relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including Code of Conduct, EEO and cultural inclusion. An understanding of and ability to work to the spirit and principles of the Premier's Safety Commitment and the legislative requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012.
