We are a friendly, patient-focused, dispensing practice with 7750 patients. We are looking for a Practice Nurse to join our team.
We are looking for someone who would be happy to work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes GPs, nurses, HCAs, phlebotomists, dispensers, medical receptionists, pharmacists & social prescribers.
The role:Ideally, you will have experience of practice nursing and be confident in delivering child immunisations, cervical cytology, wound care, chronic disease management, travel immunisations & ECGs. This list is not exhaustive.
This is a part-time position of 24 hours per week worked over 3 days, Monday, Tuesday & Friday. We would be happy to offer more hours if required. A competitive salary, based upon experience, will be offered.

Main duties of the jobAssist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care. Such tasks will include:
Child and baby immunisationsAdult immunisations including Shingles, Pneumonia, Flu, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Pertussis, etc.Travel vaccinations including Yellow Fever (Training will be given)Asthma & COPD monitoring (Training will be given)Diabetic monitoringCervical smearsWound care (primary & secondary) and dressings including compression bandagingSuture removalAssisting G.P with insertion of Zoladex implantsAssisting during insertion of IUD and contraceptive implantsChanging of male, female and supra-pubic urinary catheters, including catheter flushingECGsRequesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabsAll tasks to be entered through an appropriate Template.
Other tasks will include:Keep room clean, clutter-free and tidyMaintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPsMaintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as requiredUndertake housekeeping duties including general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment roomsOrdering of Health Promotion LiteratureOrdering of stock from the local HospitalOrdering of vaccinations to maintain stock levelsParticipation in administrative systems in the practiceMaintain accurate records at all timesAdvise colleagues of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasksAttend and participate in any practice meetings when requiredOn occasion, there may be a requirement to undertake home visitsAny other delegated duties appropriate to the postSpecial Requirements of the Post:An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentialityAbility to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common senseA commitment to maintain a high professional standard of nursing care and keep up to date with all aspects of nursing care relevant to the postA commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and to report any problems to the practice managerA commitment to the effective use of practice and NHS resourcesAn awareness of own limitations and experienceTo work only in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct and within the Scope of Professional PracticeTo have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up-to-date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the UKCCCooperate with appraisal meetingsMembership of the RCNPerson SpecificationEssential: To be a registered nurse with a UKCC personal identification numberTo be competent in basic nursing duties required for the postAble to demonstrate enthusiasm for developing nursing skillsAble to work at the desired timesGood communication skills with both patients and colleaguesAble to work as a team playerAbility to self-motivate, organise and prioritise own workloadA demonstrable commitment to professional developmentDesirable: To be comfortable using IT equipment - we use 'EMIS' for all patient recordsAdditional specific nursing skills/qualificationsExperienceExperience of working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional ConductExperience of Microsoft Office softwareExperience of dealing with the public/patientsExperience of multi-skilled approach to Chronic Disease ManagementExperience of working in a complex organisationExperience of diagnosis and treatment of minor illnessesEvidence of involvement in Research and DevelopmentKnowledge and SkillsEffective communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge and understanding of current national developments and trends in health care, quality assurance and practice developmentAssess and develop risk management protocolsImplement strategies for quality assurance and quality auditEvidence of innovative practiceExperience of working with new technologies in health care practiceUnderstanding of clinical coding in general and Read coding in particularUnderstanding of the health needs assessment processExperience of TPP Systym One clinical systemQualities and AttributesAn understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentialityAbility to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common senseAbility to work without direct supervision and determine own workload prioritiesAbility to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled teamPleasant and articulateAble to work under pressureAble to work in a changing environmentAble to use own initiativeOtherFlexibility of working hours/able to work at the desired timesExperience of Primary CareDisclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
