Primary objective: To provide effective management, leadership, and development of the Alice Springs office. To provide direction and high-level advice to staff on legal matters and engage with stakeholders on behalf of the Director.
Key duties and responsibilities:Provide high-level management and leadership of the Alice Springs office.Work closely with the Director and Deputy Director to ensure the smooth running of the Alice Springs office.Allocate work to all staff in the Alice Springs office.Provide direction to legal staff on complex criminal matters.Engage with stakeholders and attend meetings on the Director's behalf.Act as a mentor and provide guidance to less experienced prosecutors.Conduct complex trials and hearings in the Local and Supreme Court.Selection criteria:Essential: Admitted or eligible for admission as a barrister or solicitor of the High Court or of a Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia.Proven high-level management skills.High-level knowledge of and experience in criminal law, practice, and procedure.Working knowledge of Uniform Evidence Law.High level oral and written communication and negotiation skills.Ability to provide high-level expert advice and legal opinion relating to the prosecution of complex criminal cases.Well-developed political and cross-cultural awareness skills.Hold (or have the capacity to obtain) a current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).Further information: The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check including a Fingerprint Scan and Name Check. A criminal history check will not exclude an applicant unless it is relevant. The successful applicant will need to be available for intrastate travel for courts, including in light aircraft.
