The role involves conducting research on the ARC-funded project 'Identifying the goals and strategies people use to make others feel worse.' The successful applicant will work with the chief investigator, research assistants, and PhD students to design, conduct, and write up studies using daily diary, experience sampling, and experimental methods in romantic couple, university student, and employee groups. There is also a focus on international comparisons of emotion regulation goals and strategies to examine cultural differences.The School of Psychology at the University of Sydney is currently ranked 27th in the world for psychology and is the first School of Psychology in Australia. We are proud of our history and reputation and believe in pursuing continuous innovation and excellence in our research and teaching.Your key responsibilities will be to:Design and plan studies, including writing ethics applications and preparing study materials.Collect data, including participant recruitment and data storage/maintenance.Analyse data, which may involve dyadic analysis and multi-level modeling for longitudinal data.Write manuscripts for publication.About youThe University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate who has:A PhD (or near completion) in psychology or related field.Quantitative analysis skills and expertise in statistical software such as SPSS, R, MPlus or similar.A track record of writing and publishing academic papers in reputable journals.Knowledge and experience of conducting intensive longitudinal studies (ESM, daily diary), ideally in an emotion regulation context.Content knowledge in the research area (worsening others' emotions), which could be emotion regulation or fields such as aggression or intimate partner violence.Pre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the completion of all role-required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
