Located at the School of Biomedical Engineering on the Darlington Campus A unique opportunity to drive AI innovations in biomedical data processing and precision healthcare Base Salary, Level A, $105,314 - $116,679 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Biomedical Engineering is seeking a talented Postdoctoral Research Associate in AI for Physiological Data Processing. A myriad of scientific and societal challenges exists in the area of Biomedical and Health Informatics, such as the interpretation of multimodal biomedical signals with high accuracy and reliability, data mining, early detection and warning of diseases.
With the rapid development of machine learning, AI and data fusion technology, this has inspired innovations in physiological and behavioural signal processing.

In this exciting research, biomedical and health informatics will be further developed by:

proposing dedicated AI and data science methods to explore and analyse relevant biomarkers and features with high sensitivity and specificity
building analytical models to enhance the learning performance
proposing approaches to improve model generalisation
investigating explainable AI methods; developing information and computing schemes and algorithms for precise disease detection and prediction.
Your key responsibilities will be to: work closely with Prof. Wei Chen (Head of School of Biomedical Engineering) and her clinical and industrial partners
propose novel AI methods and algorithms for physiological and behavioral data processing
develop innovative methods for algorithm performance enhancement
design experiments and clinical validation schemes for performance evaluation
Publish research results in high-quality journals
draft proposals for relevant funding applications, including ARC and NHMRC
actively contribute to the management and development of the research lab.

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in AI for Physiological Data Processing who has:

a PhD (or near completion) in computer and data science, electrical and electronic engineering, biomedical engineering, microelectronics, telecommunication engineering, or related disciplines
strong expertise in signal processing and AI models and technologies, with an in-depth understanding of the latest advancements and trending AI techniques, including state-of-the-art models and methodologies
proven skills in algorithm development, with proficiency in AI-related programming languages and frameworks such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar tools
proficiency in handling large-scale, multimodal datasets and applying advanced AI techniques, such as Large Language Models
strong interests and research initiative on biomedical signal processing, with papers published in high-quality international journals
experience in projects related to physiological and behavioral data processing, sleep data analysis, brain signal analysis, and data processing for disease detection and prediction (preferred)
self-motivation, is responsible and trustworthy, diligent and creative
good communication skills, teamwork and collaboration
excellent academic writing skills.
