The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) has over 148 academic staff and research staff, over 170 research students and 60 Honours students. BEES incorporates environmentally relevant disciplines enabling the School to undertake comprehensive education and research in the mainstream disciplines of biology, geography and geology. This also provides students the opportunity for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies.
The Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) is expected to contribute towards the research effort of UNSW and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to their particular field of research.
The role involves contributing to the research grant project 'National Environmental Science Program' as a communication and policy expert and requires specific skills to manage the development of stakeholder engagement, priority setting, translation of research findings into well-tailored educational pieces. The Postdoctoral Fellow will carry out this work working with the project lead, and other staff as required.
About the role Level A - $110k - $117k - plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
Fixed Term – 25 months
Part-time (17.5 hours per week)
The role reports to Professor Donna Green and has no direct reports.
Specific responsibilities for this role include: Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research with a focus to enhance the quality of research outcomes in the discipline area. Conduct research (as per the norms of the discipline) and/or enable research teams to create scholarly output appropriate for the project that is recognised by peers. Undertake the development of stakeholder engagement state and nationally, translation of these discussions into useful guidance for government and policy makers around low-cost sensors and HEPA filters. Trouble shoot problems quickly and efficiently. Undertake specific research project/s under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to development of research activities. Support the dissemination of outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets. Undertake discipline-appropriate research activities, e.g. summarizing online content for the website using appropriate research methods. Participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required. Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct. Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others. About the successful applicant (Selection Criteria): A PhD or Masters with 5+ years in industry in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision. Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
