About- The University of Melbourne invites applications for the McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellowships Scheme, a flagship program supporting outstanding postdoctoral researchers across diverse fields.
The scheme provides a concentrated research period, fostering research excellence, project development, collaborations, and leadership skills for early-career scholars.
Up to 16 fellowships will be awarded for commencement in 2025, including dedicated fellowships to support Indigenous researchers and promote equity, diversity, and inclusivity.

As of 2025, the McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme involves two stages: EOI and Full Application.
Established in 2010, the McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme is the University of Melbourne's flagship postdoctoral development program.
A period of concentrated research time for outstanding early career researchers.
Strengthens research, generates new projects, develops research leadership capabilities, and contributes to broader research objectives.
Funding includes Academic Level A6 salary, on-costs, superannuation, and up to $25,000 for research project costs.
Default term: Three years of research-focused activity.
Eligibility Exemption Requests allowed under specific circumstances.

Research Area:
Open to all research fields of interest to the University and its faculties
Location:
University of Melbourne, Australia
PhD in any discipline awarded from any university worldwide, including Australia and the University of Melbourne.
Completion of the PhD requirements no earlier than February 1, 2021.
Fellowship commencement by June 30, 2025.
Not having previously held and completed a McKenzie or Melbourne Postdoctoral Fellowship.
No outstanding Progress Reports or Final Reports from other University of Melbourne researcher development schemes.
Job Description:
Conduct high-quality, independent research in the chosen field.
Strengthen research capabilities, generate new projects, and contribute to broader University research objectives.
Develop leadership skills and engage in collaborative activities.
A default term of three years at 1.0 FTE, with a focus on research.
Funding:
Fellowship at Academic Level A6, University Salary Band, with on-costs and superannuation.
Additional single allocation of up to $25,000 for research project costs over the fellowship term.

Establish an Academic Contact at the University of Melbourne and provide the Endorsement Declaration form for submission.
Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SmartyGrants, including Eligibility Exemption Requests if needed.
Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete the full application in SmartyGrants.
Ensure referees submit written testimonials by the due date.
Submit the complete application via the SmartyGrants portal.
