Fantastic opportunity to work with a dynamic group of researchers Level A Base Salary $105,350 - $112,462 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Architecture who will make a significant contribution to research in Architecture at the University of Sydney. We are seeking a highly ambitious candidate who wants to join our team to consolidate our reputation and establish their own. The appointment will span three years. This position has been established through the generosity of the estate of the late Mrs E.M. Chettle, set up in 1978 to support postgraduate work in Architecture.
We are particularly seeking candidates whose own research experience and capabilities will complement and extend the School's existing and emerging strengths in Architecture. They will also contribute to education by teaching and tutoring in architecture subjects. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will have responsibility for research and project development, publication and engagement on research that will reinforce and extend our existing strengths:
Architectural history and theory The Postdoctoral Research Associate will have knowledge and skills that complement and extend our current research capabilities in Architecture. They will be open to contributing to collaborative research Projects across the School and university, or with external partners, while pursuing a suitably scaled Project of their own.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
advance a research program related to your expertise develop work for publication with highly regarded journals and publishers build research funding and capacity in collaboration with colleagues within the School actively engage with events to promote collaboration and the research culture of the School About you a PhD in Architecture or a cognate field (awarded prior to commencement of the position) strong evidence of research capacity commensurate with opportunity, as demonstrated by a record of publications and participation in research events high level research skills and capacity to independently develop research projects from conception to grant application stage ability to teach in architectural studio or lecture contexts excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
Candidates should submit a proposal (three A4 pages, max.) outlining:
a description of the project to be undertaken across the period project aims, background and potential significance clear statements that establish the alignment of the project with ongoing research within the School, as well as a statement explaining the appeal of pursuing this work at Sydney. ambitions and outcomes of a three-year-long program of activities, as well as any budgetary requirements (up to $5,000) needed to support the research. applicants should solicit a letter of support (to include in their application) from a member of the School's academic staff that argues the merit and strategic value of the proposed research. This position is fulltime: 0.8 FTE research and 0.2 FTE teaching. Appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 3 years, with the possibility of extension. Your employment is conditional upon the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
