Location: Department of Health is seeking applications for a permanent full-time Manager - Office of the Deputy Secretary SMR vacancy located at 22 Elizabeth Street, Hobart.
This role will provide high-level advice and assistance to the Deputy Secretary, relevant Ministers, the Secretary, other Deputy Secretaries, and other senior staff in relation to the Office of the Deputy Secretary and the efficient and effective discharge of the Deputy Secretary's functions.
The Role:
Contribute to the management and coordination of the Office of the Deputy Secretary, System Management and Reform, providing information and guidance on emerging issues of relevance.
Responsibilities include:
The provision of high-level analysis and advice on strategic policy issues, including monitoring of strategic projects.
Undertaking tasks identified by the Deputy Secretary related to key priorities of the System Management and Reform division.
The provision of assistance and support in the business management of System Management and Reform.
The Manager is required to undertake the duties of this position with a significant degree of autonomy, receiving only general guidance from the Deputy Secretary, System Management and Reform, to whom the Manager is accountable.
The occupant of this role will:
Undertake analysis and develop, implement and monitor programs and projects of a strategic nature across the division.
Maintain the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and timeliness of information and advice.
Liaise with senior management within the Department of Health, the Tasmanian Health Service, and other government and non-government organisations, as required.
Operate with a high level of independence and autonomy and is expected to display a high degree of initiative in the determination of strategies, priorities, and the allocation of resources.

The Team:
System Management and Reform (SMR) within DoH performs the core system management functions of strategy and planning, purchasing, performance management, monitoring, reporting, and analysis on behalf of the Secretary and responsible Ministers.
SMR has a whole of system focus, working in a network model to strategically bring these functions together in managing health services delivery organisations, including the Tasmanian Health Service.
They play a key role in ensuring that:
Services are planned and purchased in an effective and efficient manner.
All parts of the system understand and enact their responsibilities to safeguard patient safety and support continual improvement in the quality of care provided.
A single point of access is provided to statistical information for performance monitoring, analysis, and reporting for all DoH purchased services to ensure that all stakeholders have access to quality data, driving evidence-based decision-making.
Details of Appointment:
Permanent full-time day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full-time, part-time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $135,408 to $144,527 per annum.
Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
