Organisation: Department of Transport and Planning Occupation: Policy Reference: 4640 Network Design and Integration works to deliver transport priorities through the development, delivery and maintenance of an integrated pipeline of projects supporting the Major Transport Infrastructure Program, plan Victoria's rail network, supports Road Safety Victoria and Freight Victoria.
Road Safety Victoria is a division within the Department of Transport and Planning and is responsible for leading the Victorian Government to achieve zero road fatalities by 2050.

About the Role The Policy Officer provides advice on the identification, development, implementation and evaluation of road safety policies and initiatives – particularly concerning vehicle safety and emerging safety technologies.
Drawing on current research evidence, expert opinion, community views and an awareness of the political climate, this role will shape and present advice that advances the Government's efforts to reduce road trauma.
The Policy Officer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary focused team in a dynamic environment to contribute to a number of projects designed to improve road safety.
This includes supporting the development of policy options, preparing briefings and correspondence for Ministers and executives on vehicle safety and technology.
This role will also be responsible for supporting the identification, development, implementation and evaluation of road safety policies and initiatives, and working with a wide range of government, industry and consumer stakeholders.
Position Outcomes This role involves developing and implementing road safety policies, with a focus on vehicle safety, emerging technologies, and micro-mobility, while preparing evidence-based reports for senior management and other stakeholders.
It also requires supporting research, advising managers, and collaborating with various stakeholders to negotiate and influence policy development, ensuring political and regulatory considerations are met.

Where guidelines are not available, analyses ideas available and takes action through self, or in consultation with others to resolve problems.

Qualifications and Experience Mandatory Tertiary qualification in public policy, engineering, psychology or related field and relevant experience to the capabilities of the role.
Demonstrated experience in policy development and/or project management/support.
Knowledge in vehicle safety or transport technology.
Strong communication and negotiation skills and the ability to present complex information in a digestible form.
Experience working in the public sector policy would be advantageous.
