Primary Objective Support the Aboriginal Justice Unit in the provision of policy advice and the delivery of projects under the Northern Territory Aboriginal Justice Agreement 2021-2027.
Context Statement The Aboriginal Justice Unit (AJU) leads the implementation of the Northern Territory's first Aboriginal Justice Agreement, a partnership between the NT Government and Aboriginal Territorians to improve justice outcomes for Aboriginal people. The AJU develops and delivers projects to improve justice responses and services to Aboriginal people.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Research, analyse and advise on the development and review of policy and supporting infrastructure required to implement the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, including drafting and contributing to policy documents. Contribute to the development and review of related policy frameworks and projects at local and national levels. Contribute to the development of communications and stakeholder engagement processes. Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating their engagement in policy solutions. Contribute to the preparation of high-level correspondence, reports, discussion papers, Cabinet Submissions, and ministerial briefings. Selection Criteria Essential Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, analyse and evaluate information from diverse sources. Demonstrated experience supporting the development and implementation of policy within legislative frameworks. High level oral and written communication skills with proven ability to prepare correspondence and reports. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders. Ability to manage workload to meet government needs and deadlines. Understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal people's relationship with the criminal justice system. Desirable Tertiary qualifications or experience in a relevant field. Understanding of the Aboriginal Justice Agreement and the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check. A completed pre-employment form is to be submitted with your online application. The successful applicant may be required to travel to regional and remote areas.
