Ongoing roleUsual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available)The Role This job offers an exciting opportunity to join the Economics and Analytics team within the Regional Policy and Strategy branch. The Policy Adviser contributes to key strategic projects aimed at improving the productivity and competitiveness of Victoria's regions, supporting the growth of local industries and stimulating the creation of jobs, addressing entrenched disadvantage and helping regional communities to thrive. The team is focussed on economic analysis, data analytics, economic modelling and the provision of evidence-based policy advice to improve the effectiveness of the Victorian Government's regional economic development policies.
The responsibilities of the Policy Adviser - Economist will include, but are not limited to:
Undertake high quality and rigorous analysis to develop the evidence base for economic and industry policies being evaluated. Undertake economic modelling to investigate the economic impacts of existing and proposed policies.Support the management and maintenance of economic datasets and quantitative economic analysis to inform policy and strategic advice relating to regional development.Participate in and support projects developing strategic advice on economic development policy and strategy, including presentation of analysis and recommendations to stakeholders as required.The Team The position of Policy Adviser - Economist forms a part of the Regional Policy and Strategy Branch. The Regional Policy and Strategy Branch provides policy and strategy leadership, coordinating across government to develop the evidence base, ideas, knowledge, policies and programs that support the Victorian Government's commitment to rural and regional Victoria. The group delivers research and analysis to support regional policy, and manages strategic relationships across and outside government, including with the Regional Partnerships
About You The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
Economic Analysis and Modelling: Demonstrates sound knowledge of key economic developments and trends in the Victorian, Australian and major international economies; Demonstrates awareness of challenges and opportunities faced by industries in regional Victoria; Understands and effectively conveys impact of recent domestic and international economic developments on various industry sectors in Victoria. Demonstrates ability and experience in management and maintenance of economic datasets and undertaking economic modelling of policies.Project management: Consults, liaises with and influences key stakeholders; Produces detailed project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified; Monitors performance against objectives and manages project risks and issues; Ensures project objectives are met.Conceptual and analytical ability: Deals with concepts and complexity comfortably; Uses analytical and conceptual skills to reason through problems.
