About the Organisation: Our State Government client is seeking a skilled Water Quality Scientist to support the Water Quality & Investigations department and be involved in the delivery of key water quality monitoring programs.
Your team will actively assist in the environmental investigations, assessments and analysis relating to pollution events, ecotoxicology, water quality and aquatic ecosystem health throughout Queensland.
This is a casual full time position (36.25 hours per week) for an initial period for 6 months with potential for extension.
Please note that as part of this role you will be required to travel to regional centres and other offices from time to time.
This includes overnight stays and field work.
About the Role: As a PO2 Scientist you will: Initiate, build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and provide professional support to a senior scientist including assistance with the monitoring network.
Support the operations of the monitoring programs through the installation, maintenance and repair of water quantity and quality monitoring infrastructure.
Undertake field work for one or more days at a time, often in isolated areas, and assist with the logistics, collection, submission and analysis of stream flow measurements, high quality water samples and data.
Develop, maintain and use open source and proprietary software and data management systems for image processing and analysis.
Develop and refine state-wide procedures for waterway event monitoring and develop and deliver scientific/technical briefings, reports and other resources in a variety of formats.
Establish and provide ongoing scientific/technical advice and field/laboratory support for the agency-based waterway monitoring networks in relation to monitoring design, sampling methodologies, data management, interpretation, reporting, quality control and quality assurance.

Skills & Experience: This position requires: A university degree in the field of Science or Environmental Science or agreed equivalent and relevant experience in environmental monitoring techniques.
An unrestricted manual driver's licence.
Being comfortable travelling to regional centres and other offices from time to time.
This includes overnight stays.
Experience and/or knowledge of environmental monitoring methods, including real-time monitoring equipment, water sampling infrastructure, a capacity to deploy and maintain such equipment and manage resultant data streams.
Demonstrated ability to utilise statistical analysis software and specialist knowledge or skills in one or more aspects of environmental monitoring.
High-level written and oral communication skills including preparation of complex, sensitive materials and the ability to give constructive feedback.
Demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to change and act proactively with a focus on performance, personal development and building positive working relationships.
A capacity to work as a member of a team and work independently.
