Selection CriteriaDemonstrated knowledge, ability and experience in the provision of physiotherapy services, in the area of pediatrics and developmental disorders.Demonstrated ability to provide a range of assessments, program planning and implementation of intervention.Demonstrated ability to evaluate programs and your professional performance and provide evidence of outcomes.Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with children, parents and carers, teachers and assistants, therapists and other professionals and agencies.Demonstrated ability to work independently, to accept supervision as required, and an ability to seek support and implement recommendations.Demonstrated experience and willingness to engage in professional development activities, especially related to the range of impairments, intervention and evidenced based practice required to provide a quality service.Demonstration of high quality verbal and written communication skills.RoleUnder supervision, and in association with the Integrated Services Team, provide assessment, treatment and consultative services to students at BSS. The role of the physiotherapist working in schools is to assist the child towards maximum access to, and participation in, all aspects of the school curriculum. This includes academic areas and those related to social and play skills and independent living skills. Allied health professionals support the health and physical needs of the students within this role.
ResponsibilitiesIndependently, with clinical supervision support, provide high quality standard physiotherapy services (assessment, treatment and consultation) which focus on promoting the students' gross motor development and on assisting the students towards maximum access to, and participation in, all aspects of the school curriculum, including their health, mobility and physical needs.Provide physiotherapy services within defined organisational policies and procedures and within the BSS allied health teams service delivery models.Prioritise students' physiotherapy support needs and independently organise caseloads, time tables and planning.Provide evidence and documentation of all physiotherapy support services provided.Respond to and communicate about referrals from parents, teachers and others appropriately and timely.Initiate communication with all teachers of allocated groups to promote referrals, reviewing and reporting on physiotherapy input for students in the class group (at least once a term).Work collaboratively with classroom and specialist staff in developing and implementing programs within the classrooms with an aim to embed physiotherapy strategies into the educational programs.Work collaboratively with the teacher, other professionals, parents, and the student to assist in establishing an optimal Individual Education Plan (IEP).Work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of speech pathologists, occupational therapists, a school nurse, allied health assistants, the well-being team, teacher, parents, external agencies, and classroom support staff while promoting a student-centred approach.Follow processes required for the prescription, training, ongoing and safe use of equipment as required by/for students e.g. wheelchairs, hoists, walking and standing frames and other equipment.Monitor and evaluate the use and maintenance of specialised equipment.Refer the student and family to external therapy services for physiotherapy support needs occurring in the students home and community environment. Liaise and communicate effectively with external therapy agencies.Attend meetings and contribute in reviewing and celebrating learning and in curriculum design, implementation and evaluation as a member of the professional learning teams, mini school groups, PLTs and class groups.Provide professional reports requiring in-depth factual analysis, including assessment results and recommendations.Apply evidence based interventions, evaluate and modify interventions regularly and report on outcomes of interventions.Train and support allied health assistants and other staff as required in the delivery of physiotherapy programs and strategies.Liaise with school staff and parents regarding concerns or issues with respect to physiotherapy programs or students attending physiotherapy programs.Conduct training and instruction to school staff and parents within areas of the professional physiotherapy field and within expected level of experience, as required and identified by leadership groups.Assist in completion of risk assessments and development of safe work practices.Implement, model and train other staff in applying safe work practices.Participate in performance reviews.Assist and participate in the development of policies, strategies, processes and procedures for effective delivery of physiotherapy services to students.Promote awareness of issues relating to physiotherapy across the school.Demonstrate strong commitment to ongoing professional development.Participate in clinical supervision sessions and identify cases and issues which require guidance and supervision from a senior clinician.Communicate directly to the allied health team leader.
