What you will be doing: As the People Safety Specialist for Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA), you'll oversee WHS performance and compliance while ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of the WHS Management System. You'll be a key driver in supporting the organisation's operational streams by leading continuous improvement initiatives across Work Health and Safety, Workers Compensation, and Workplace Wellbeing.
Working closely with divisional leaders, you'll influence positive change, manage safety risks, ensure legislative compliance, and foster a strong safety culture across the business. Your responsibilities will include conducting audits, investigations, and inspections at VARA facilities to ensure safety standards are upheld and continuously improved.
The ideal candidate will have experience in WHS and Workplace Wellbeing functions and thrive on building strong relationships with stakeholders to enhance the company's safety culture.
As a People Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for:
Researching, identifying, and analysing legislative WHS or other specified requirements, emerging WHS issues and best practices, assessing and identifying opportunities or impacts for Virgin Australia systems and processes.Acting as a sounding board and key partner of frontline leaders and teams in engaging with and driving cultural change through the business.Designing and delivering effective communication strategies and processes that will engage and influence the business in driving Work Health Safety and Workplace Wellbeing continuous improvement strategies.Providing analysis, reporting, and insights to support effective decision-making and compliance outcomes.Provision of reports and documentation for internal and external reporting requirements for Safety Risk Review Committee Meetings.Supporting the ongoing development of the WHS Management System.Supporting the Business Partners with WHS Investigations.Maintaining oversight of injury and incident reporting ensuring accuracy.Leading and supporting People Safety projects as allocated by the Head of Safety Systems.Using specialised practical procedures, knowledge, techniques, and learned skills to support the People Safety assurance activities.Overseeing non-conformances and findings from assurance activities partnering with divisions.You'll be great in this role if you: Have a Tertiary Qualification in WHS or a related discipline.Come with a minimum of 2 years experience in Work Health Safety and/or Workplace Wellbeing within Aviation, resource, or energy sectors.Have 2 years experience implementing systems and risk management programs within the industry.Possess high levels of experience analysing and reporting to multiple stakeholders on safety performance metrics and trends.Have knowledge of State and Territory WHS legislative requirements.Have experience in the rollout of people safety programs and initiatives across WHS and Workplace Wellbeing.Have a demonstrated ability in interpretation of legislative or other specified requirements to produce practical operational solutions.Are proficient in MS Office suite of programmes and an advanced user of Intelex and Power BI.What you'll get from us: We're committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):
