Patent Attorney, Associate Director - Intellectual Property
As the IP counsel/Patent Attorney you'll provide advice to the organization on patent, regulatory exclusivities, trade secrets and related intellectual property (IP) matters. You will also represent CSL on matters including the patentability of inventions, potential infringement of patents and other exclusivities, agreements involving patents, know how, and educate on IP.
Your Responsibilities
Responsible for managing and delivering global patent and related intellectual property strategies and support for portion of CSL Group's global activities
Managing prosecution and defence of CSL intellectual property, including building and safeguarding of a patent portfolio tailored to CSL's R&D activities
Providing counsel and advice to management and R&D organization to actively manage global patent related risks
Contributing to an enterprise-wide IP strategy that supports and safeguards CSL's Global R&D activities, including invention harvesting, optimising and defending regulatory exclusivities and lifecycle management activities
Contributing to identification and preservation of Trade Secrets and in conjunction with IP team, ensuring trade secrets are well protected within global IP strategy alongside other IP rights
Actively managing the identification and protection of inventions through filing and securing of patent rights across elected countries including contributing to capturing and building robust IP positions for CSL's lead drug product candidates
Actively contributing to development of and delivering education sessions to business partners on aspects of IP across the CSL enterprise
Representing CSL Group directly or in cooperation with external attorneys
Your Experience
Bachelor's degree in life sciences discipline (chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology) or a related field
Fully Qualified Patent Attorney or IP lawyer - admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction (AU, EP, DE, UK, US preferred)
Master's degree or PhD highly regarded
At least 8 years post-qualification experience in Intellectual Property
Experience with life science technologies and operations of in-house IP teams with a background in a technical field relevant to CSL highly regarded
Patent management experience in an R&D drug development environment highly regarded
Experience with agreements involving patent and related intellectual property matters
Ability to work proactively in globally organised project teams and dealing with scientists located in R&D sites around the world.
