Patching Server Engineer

Cleared is supporting a Federal Government Department in recruiting a Patching Server Engineer for a 12-month contract, with potential extensions. The position is based in Canberra, with hybrid working arrangements available.

This role is open to candidates in other states; however, occasional travel to Canberra for onboarding, training, and planning exercises (1-2 times per quarter) will be required.

You must be an Australian citizen with an NV1 security clearance or higher to apply for this role.

The Opportunity:
The Patching Server Engineer will play a key role within the Service Operations Section of the Digital Technology Branch, ensuring the ongoing maintenance, patching, and security compliance of the department's server environments.

This position involves hands-on technical work, monitoring, and applying updates across a diverse and complex IT landscape, ensuring stability, security, and optimal performance to support critical departments operations.

Key Responsibilities: Implement and manage patching solutions to ensure compliance with security and operational standards.Monitor server environments for vulnerabilities, performance issues, and update requirements.Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and execute patching cycles with minimal disruption.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within on-premises and cloud-based server environments.Maintain accurate documentation of patching activities, ensuring transparency and compliance. Mandatory Criteria: Demonstrated experience with patching solutions and server maintenance within enterprise environments.Proficiency with Microsoft Server operating systems and associated patch management tools.Strong understanding of security principles and practices related to server environments.Excellent communication skills to coordinate with technical and non-technical teams.Australian citizenship and a current NV1 AGSVA security clearance. Desirable Criteria: Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments, including integration of on-premises and cloud systems.Experience with ITIL frameworks and service management best practices.Exposure to government systems or knowledge of the department's operational environment. Clearance Requirements:
A current NV1 AGSVA security clearance is mandatory. A Police Check may also be required.
