Packaging Developer

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Packaging Developer to join our procurement team. Reporting into the Packaging Development Technologist, you will be responsible for management of the supplier relationship for NPD and for packaging optimization. This includes identifying new materials, technologies, value engineering opportunities and sustainable packaging opportunities. Importantly there will be a requirement to actively engage with the Marketing, Operations, Purchasing, Quality and Innovation functions on a regular basis.


Based in Derrimut with occasional travel between sites

Key responsibilities will include: • Develop detailed briefs in collaboration with project and marketing leads for all NPD, artwork changes and new packaging formats.

• Develop detailed timelines with critical path information including artwork, supply lead times and tooling lead times.

• Develop and specify packaging materials with suppliers for all the required items of packaging.

• Coordinate samples and develop specifications to meet detailed briefs.

• Obtain quotations from suppliers in collaboration with the sourcing manager.

• Conduct the appropriate testing, production and transport trials for new and modified packaging items.

• Complete Bulla specifications and approved die lines for all approved (tested) packaging items.

• Maintain the ERP and other business systems to support new or changed packaging.

• Collaborate with the project lead and the planning team to have clear SAP master data set up and packaging BOM set up delivery dates to feed into purchase orders for new packaging items.

• Manage the technical packaging side of artwork, liaising with suppliers and supporting press approvals where suitable Keep abreast of trends and innovations in the industry, including new technologies, new packaging materials and formats, new suppliers and developments in sustainable packaging.

You will have: • Strong leadership skills with the capacity to positively influence people and to initiate and deliver change independently or through teamwork.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and effective presentation skills.
• An organized, forward looking approach and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to develop, manage and communicate detailed and practical plans.
• Strong logical and lateral thinking skills with a demonstrated capacity for innovation.
• Effectiveness in managing internal and external relationships with a particular emphasis on intercompany relationships.
• Detailed technical and working knowledge of the entire Supply Chain, preferably within an FMCG company.
• Excellent understanding of packaging material technologies as relating to food manufacturers.
• A good working knowledge of the Company ERP system (SAP).
• A sound working knowledge of the current retail environment and supply chain projects of key Customers.
• Capacity to effectively relate and communicate to people at all levels of the business.
• Flexibility to handle a range of tasks with changing priorities.
• Responsive to challenges and able to 'think on one's feet'.
