Wesley College Melbourne , a school of the Uniting Church, established in 1866, is one of Australia's leading and most respected co-educational independent schools. We have an exciting opportunity for an Outdoor Education Teacher to join us at Camp Mallana in 2025 for a full-time ongoing contract.
Camp Mallana is located on the Gippsland lakes, near Bairnsdale, and provides Outdoor Education programs for Years 6 and Year 10 students from Wesley College city campuses. Programs offer five to six-day camps, using activities such as sailing, sea kayaking, bike touring, hiking, and camping.
The Outdoor Education Teacher and Head of Program share the running of the campsite, implementing camp programs, and providing leadership and supervision of the Outdoor Education Instructor and two trainee staff. The role requires initiative, energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to work with other dedicated professionals.
The Outdoor Education Teacher is required to work with the Head of Program to plan and implement all outdoor education activities associated with the annual camp for each home room group and to manage the operation of the campsite. Sea Kayak Instructor qualification required. Relevant qualifications and/or experience in Sailing (preferably knowledge around Hobie Catamarans). A current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration (which incorporates Working With Children Check and National Police Checks) is an essential requirement for this role. Ability to lead a team of Outdoor Education Instructors and Trainees to impart a high-quality programme for the students in the camp. Qualification and instruction in outdoor pursuits according to accepted procedures that ensure a safe programme of educational activities. Ensuring safety procedures and contingency plans are in place and that staff and students are familiar with procedures in the event of accidents and emergencies.
