About the Job About the role The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is seeking an Occupational Safety and Health Advisor to support the implementation and improvement of the PTA's Safety Management System within the Network and Infrastructure Division.
In this role, you will work collaboratively with employees and contractors, providing advice, conducting audits, and investigating safety incidents to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health legislation.
You will also coordinate safety programs, assist with ergonomic assessments, and promote a strong safety culture through training and awareness sessions.
The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering continuous improvement in safety practices by supporting the development of policies and procedures and identifying opportunities for enhancing safety management systems.
You will act as a mentor and provide leadership on safety matters, ensuring that all personnel understand and meet safety requirements, while also liaising with internal and external stakeholders on WHS issues.

About you!
To excel in this role, you should possess: Experience in WHS within a rail or operational environment, with knowledge of Safety Management Systems, relevant legislation, and Australian safety standards.
Progress towards or possession of a WHS-related tertiary qualification is preferred.
PTA Individual Access or Protection Officer Track Access Permit (or the ability to obtain the competency within 3 months of appointment, including the Category 3 Rail Safety medical).
Strong verbal and written communication, including report writing, facilitation, and influencing skills.
Proven ability to build productive working relationships at all levels.
Demonstrated skills in research, analysis, and practical problem-solving, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant policies, legislation, and safety standards.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong organisational skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel), possession of a valid driver's license, and ability to meet medical, police clearance and track access requirements.
Ability to work occasional unsocial hours and travel as needed.

There will be one fixed term opportunity available from December 2024 to 31 March 2027 with the possibility of extensions and/or permanency.
