Job description: This position has been established to fulfil a number of targeted activities to improve the delivery of general surgical services to patients at the Launceston General Hospital, Northern Region and to assist in the coordination and training of Surgical Registrars and Resident Medical Officers (RMOs).
The successful Launceston General Hospital Fellowship applicant will receive expert tuition in total hip replacement (anterior and posterior approach), revision hip replacement, hip arthroscopy, total knee replacement (including computer assisted surgery and robotic surgery), revision knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, reconstructive surgery of the knee, knee osteotomy, and general orthopaedic trauma.
There will be supervised surgery at the LGH and then Private assisting at St Lukes Hospital Calvary.
The LGH has trauma list and arthroplasty lists which are supervised by a VMO where the successful candidate will get operative experience.
In conjunction with their Supervisor, they will establish and then participate in suitable consultations established through discussions around areas of interest and a roster created based on individual fellow's needs.
While on the Launceston General Hospital Fellowship, the Fellow will attend clinics and x-ray meetings (weekly). The Fellow will assist in educating AOA set trainees, unaccredited orthopaedic registrars and medical students on rotation at the Launceston General Hospital. It is expected that the Fellow attend AOA scientific meeting and AOA continuing education meetings specific to hip, knee and trauma orthopaedic surgery. It is expected that the Fellow attend and participate in quarterly audits at the LGH.
There is a weekly meeting reviewing all cases done to provide peer-review. Monthly journal clubs. It is expected that the successful applicant continue to progress their Orthopaedic knowledge via the many self-directed forums currently available. It is expected that the Fellow be involved in research projects in the orthopaedic department.
There are a number of projects ongoing at any one time.
There are links with the Clifford Craig Medical trust and the University of Tasmania. The successful candidate will participate in the on-call registrar roster (1 in 6). How to Apply: Apply Online.
