About the role This role reports to the Operations Superintendent and focuses on the planning and management of daily operations including vessel communications and loading, rail unloading operations, plant control, and operational resource management.
In this role, you will be responsible for fostering a one team culture that strives to deliver business outcomes related to health, safety and environmental responsibilities, operational excellence, community engagement, continuous improvement and exceptional service delivery for our customers.
Port Waratah operates continuously to meet its customers' service delivery needs.
Operations Supervisors work two types of rosters:
7-day continuous: 2 days on, 2 nights on, 4 days off, rotating 12.5-hour shifts. Day work: 4 days a week, 10.5-hour shifts (Monday – Thursday only). The current vacancy is for a position on the 7-day continuous roster.
Desired Skills and Experience We are looking for someone with:
Proven leadership experience ideally in heavy industry, with a track record of engaging direct reports and collaborating with teams to achieve results. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information and engage others. Demonstrated experience in improving health, safety, wellbeing, process improvement and environmental outcomes. Ability to prioritise, adapt and problem solve with stakeholders to navigate unexpected changes within the operational environment. Proven capability in applying judgement and making well-informed, risk-based decisions in a timely fashion. Understanding of emergency management and incident control in an industrial setting. Port Waratah Coal Services has been receiving, stockpiling, blending and loading coal for export in the Port of Newcastle for almost 40 years.
We own and manage the Kooragang and Carrington Coal Terminals, with a combined capacity of 145 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
We have approximately 350 employees working across our business, operating our terminals 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
Port Waratah is an unlisted, public company, whose main purpose is to deliver a high quality, cost-effective service to our customers which meets their need for reliable and equitable access to export terminal capacity.
Our shareholders are made up of a mixture of Hunter Valley coal producers and Japanese coal customers, who are represented by a Board of Directors.
The Board determines and monitors the strategic direction of the organisation, reviewing and supporting us to meet our legal and social responsibilities.
