Dark Mofo is set to return in 2025, showcasing large-scale art installations across various unique locations in Hobart. To bring this creative vision to life, DarkLab is seeking an Operations Manager in Safety and Compliance to ensure that the festival team can show their creativity, in a safe way.
The Operations Manager Safety and Compliance (OMSC) reports to the Head of Production and Operations (HoP&O) and is a core part of the operational delivery team for Dark Mofo 2025. They will also work closely with the Creative, Technical, Project Management, Production and Operations teams to interpret project needs relating to safety, risk, compliance and permits and translate them into deliverable outcomes. The OMSC plays a key role in ensuring Dark Mofo can realise a suite of 'high risk' presentations in a manner that mitigates and minimises risk and ensures compliance to the highest possible standard. To succeed in this role you will need to be self-driven, innovative and adaptable in order to operate in an environment with high instances of change.
The Gig: Collaborate with the Head of Production & Operations (HoP&O) and Risk and Safety Consultant on risk identification and management processes. Refine safety and emergency management plans and oversee execution. Manage all assigned budgets and or budget line items, focusing on cost efficiencies. Ensure the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is fully operational and leads daily incident reviews. Organize and lead risk and safety meetings for effective outcomes. Review all festival venues and projects to assess and advise on safety risks. Identify and secure all necessary permits for the event, ensuring compliance. Oversee the creation and timely submission of all key safety and permit related documentation (EG risk management and event management plans). Ensure staff are trained and inducted properly for safety and compliance. Act as a leader within all safety-related festival teams to foster a culture of diligence and compliance. Champion a safe and respectful workplace through setting positive examples across all aspects of the festival. The You: Highly developed interpersonal skills. Significant experience working in festivals, events and operational delivery roles. Experience in authoring event risk and safety documentation. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated project management skills with exceptional organisational, time management and prioritisation skills. Collaborative and flexible approach to problem solving and information sharing. Ability to simultaneously coordinate numerous projects managing competing and conflicting project needs. Solid work ethic and able to work flexible hours. Experience using Google Workspace.
