Onsite Septic Technical Support Co-Lead - PROJECT (DOH8345) This is a full-time remote/home-based Public Health Advisor 3, PROJECT position. This project position is currently funded through October 31, 2026. What You Will Do: Join the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and help safeguard public health through our values of Equity, Innovation, and Engagement. Our Office of Environmental Health and Safety works to protect Washingtonians by minimizing exposure to environmental hazards.
We are seeking a leader for our Wastewater Management Section to: Collaborate on the development and implementation of state laws and guidance documents.Provide technical support for small on-site sewage systems (OSS) and greywater reuse systems.Contribute to projects and occasionally support the permitting process for large on-site sewage systems (LOSS).Your work will be crucial in maintaining clean surface water and groundwater for drinking, recreation, and shellfish harvesting.

Location and Flexibility Enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work environment, where you balance working from home and in-person collaboration with customers. This position requires travel throughout Washington State, which may include overnight stays for multiple nights to meet with partners, customers, and community members. When not traveling, you may choose to work from home or the nearest DOH facility.
Required Qualifications Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile. You must meet ONE of the provided options: Option 1: A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in on-site septic design, installation, and operations and maintenance.
OR Option 2: A bachelor's degree in public health, environmental public health, civil or environmental engineering, or closely allied field AND five (5) years of professional experience in environmental public health and/or environmental protection, including a minimum of three (3) years working in on-site sewage or wastewater programs or closely related activities.
OR Option 3: A master's degree or PhD in public health, environmental public health, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely allied field AND three (3) years of professional experience in environmental public health and/or environmental protection, including a minimum of two (2) years working in on-site sewage or wastewater programs or closely related activities.
Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in natural or physical science.
