Location ProfileBelvoir Special School is a multi-mode specialist school in Wodonga which provides a high quality educational program for students with mild, moderate and profound intellectual disabilities.
Around 45% of our students have a co-morbid diagnosis of Autism as well as an intellectual disability.
Many students also have a level of Physical disability.
Students range in age from five to eighteen years of age.
In 2014 the school moved to a brand new purpose built facility which has been constructed for a peak enrolment of around 220 students.
Current student population is 200.
To attend the school students must meet the state-wide eligibility criteria and are enrolled at Belvoir Special School after consultation with parents, previous schools or kindergartens and appropriate paramedic personnel if needed, in accordance with the school's documented enrolment policy.

Selection CriteriaRelevant critical experience and knowledge of paediatric OT and its implementation in a school setting.
Along with experience in supporting teaching teams to develop and deliver inclusive classroom practices.Demonstrated ability to form collaborative partnerships with families, staff and community members from a range of professional and cultural backgrounds, to support students safe and meaningful engagement in the school environment.Demonstrated ability to use initiative for problem solving, setting priorities within the caseload and time managements, which includes 1:1, small group and whole class practice.Demonstrated experience and capability to plan, implement and support adjustments for students including developing support plans, and working with teachers to develop their teacher practice.RoleThe Occupational Therapist will work within a multidisciplinary team model, supporting students with intellectual disabilities and complex social and health needs.
Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services.
The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field.
It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved.
This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy.
Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3.
Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility.
Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.
Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years.
Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g.
therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered.
Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.
Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
ResponsibilitiesThe OT will be responsible to the leadership team for the provision of occupational therapy services within a capacity building model and will comply with professional standards developed by Belvoir Special School and the mission and vision of our school.
Responsibilities include:
Provide high quality, evidence based, neuro affirming Occupational Therapy supports to students aged 5-18 years.Consult with parents, carers and staff at Belvoir Special School to support students meaningful and safe engagement in the school environment, as relevant to the occupational therapy scope of practice.Providing formal and informal assessments, recommendations and support for disability inclusion profiles.Contribute to and participate in school wide initiatives and communities of practice as relevant to occupational therapy scope of practice.Design and implement programs according to students' individual needs and based on developmental level and age appropriateness (in consultation with teachers, parents/carers, as appropriate)Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary allied health team, in consultation with school wellbeing team, teaching staff and school leadership.Liaise with external therapy providers and equipment suppliers to ensure students have access to the necessary supports and equipment to successfully engage at school.Develop and provide relevant and engaging professional development training for school staff as relevant to the occupational therapy scope of practice.Keep accurate and relevant file notes.Carry out responsibilities as directed by Principal Class.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
