Overview of the Role: The primary purpose of the Senior Accountant is to ensure accurate and timely completion of the financial statements for the investment entities whilst maintaining internal controls and external compliance. The role will have responsibility for the Nature Based Solutions Fund and Timberland Fund in Australia, whilst providing support on the existing farmland funds in Australia.
This includes completing the Investment Accounting, taxation, and audit compliance for certain Australian investment entities, working closely with the fund administrator and external trustees to ensure deliverables to investors are met.
This position also provides back-up support to the Financial Controller (from a business continuity perspective), with particular responsibilities of that role.
Key responsibilities: Financial Reporting and Investment Accounting Complete balance sheet and control account reconciliations and ensure the balances reported in the financial statements are complete and accurate.
Review and adjust journal entries prepared by fund administrators and accounting staff for accuracy and completeness (when applicable).
Accurately report and reconcile lease, custom farm and share farm properties (this includes grain reconciliations, inventory management, transport, and grain sale contracts). Assist with the accrual of income and expenses as required.
Ability to review legal agreements and ensure compliance with fund documents.
Liaise with fund administrators to ensure deliverables to investors are met with efficiency and quality.
Participate in the annual audit of financial statements with external Auditors.
Calculate management fees and performance fees.
Ensure proper calculations of performance returns that are aligned with Global Investment Performance Standards.
Research accounting guidance for IFRS and US GAAP.
Management Accounting Participate in the completion and approval of bi-annual budgets and associated reporting.
Taxation Prepare information required for the annual taxation returns. Assist our external advisors to complete and lodge returns.
Prepare and lodge periodic tax compliance related returns such as BAS/GST and withholding tax returns.
Assist in the management of international taxation compliance requirements in relation to transfer pricing, withholding tax and country by country reporting.
Other Assist with the preparation of corporate governance related reporting/documentation including ASIC and Board reporting.
Assist with provision of reports for banking reviews and finance requirements.
Qualifications & Experience Required Tertiary qualifications in Accounting.
Professional qualification such as CA or CPA qualification.
Minimum 7 years Accounting experience.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Excel.
Knowledge of the relevant tax legislation in Australia and of Australian Accounting Standards.
Experience in Accounting Standards (IFRS and GAAP).
In-depth knowledge of investment management and alternative products.
Experience with Global Investment Performance Standards.
Experience interacting with internal and external auditors.
A background in agriculture or agribusiness, or a general industry understanding and/or appreciation.
Competencies Required Attention to details and ability to multi-task.
Excellent organizational skills.
Proven track record for managing complex projects and transactions.
Ability to collaborate within a team and manage resolutions when/if required.
Ability to build and foster relationships and work confidently with people at all levels.
Effective communication skills with the ability to earn trust and credibility.
